In a decision that does nothing if not to very clearly demonstrate Barry's hypocrisy, as well as the lack of any seriousness whatsoever, when discussing efforts to make this country more energy independent, Barry on Wednesday rejected outright the "controversial" Keystone XL pipeline because the 60-day deadline imposed by Republicans did not allow adequate time to review an alternate route through an ecologically sensitive area in Nebraska. Controversial? To whom? His environmental wacko buddies? Barry wants gas prices to be as high as possible, as evidenced by the fact that he has expended zero effort to keep it where it was when he first entered the Oval Office, $1.83 per gallon. Barry is determined to use "climate change" nonsense as a way of manipulation and of garnering for the government even more control over our lives. He wants to be able to dictate to us what we drive, where we drive and how we drive.
It was left to some schlep Deputy Secretary of State, by the name of William Burns, to actually make the announcement, albeit on Barry's behalf, because once again our gutless president wanted to avoid there being any chance that he might be called upon to actually defend yet another "decision" based entirely on politics. The project, if pursued, would have, when completed, carried oil from Canada's carbon-heavy tar sands to refineries on the Gulf Coast. TransCanada, the company seeking to build the $7 billion, 1,700-mile pipeline, will be able to reapply with a new route avoiding an ecologically sensitive area of Nebraska, sources told National Journal. And had Barry given the green-light, approximately 20,000+ jobs would have been created. A number that Democrats dispute. And yet, San Francisco Democrats have made the claim that a 1.7 mile subway extension will support 37,000-43,000 jobs. So let's see, 1.7 miles versus 1700 miles.
In his idiotic statement on Wednesday, Barry, courtesy of Mr. Burns, declared that a February deadline set by Congress would not allow for a proper review of potential harm from the $7 billion Keystone XL project. “As the State Department made clear last month, the rushed and arbitrary deadline insisted on by congressional Republicans prevented a full assessment of the pipeline’s impact, especially the health and safety of the American people, as well as our environment,” Barry said in the statement. “As a result, the Secretary of State has recommended that the application be denied. And after reviewing the State Department’s report, I agree. ” Now you would think that all, or most, of that "environmental study" crap would have been done some time ago. But I'm sure that all manner of foot dragging has been taking place in an effort to force it out past the next election.
Put much more simply, Barry has demonstrated once again just how petty and juvenile he really is. This action is nothing more than an attempt to strike back at Republicans by saying no because of their forcing him to decide on the project in just 60 days. Republicans in Congress and on the campaign trail promptly painted the decision as a rejection of thousands of American jobs purely for political reasons. And that's exactly what it was. A spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, decried the news. “President Obama is about to destroy tens of thousands of American jobs and sell American energy security to the Chinese,” said Brendan Buck. “The president won’t stand up to his political base even to create American jobs. This is not the end of this fight.” Well, I suppose we'll just have to wait and see about that. I've heard tough talk from the Speaker before only to disappointed later as he caved at the last minute.
Texas Gov., and still presidential candidate, Rick Perry also jumped on Barry's decision and made a very good point. "The president's focused more on the next election than on the next generation." Again, a statement that sums up Barry's actions perfectly. Look, it really boils down to the fact that what our "community agitator" of a president is trying to do here is to essentially attempt to thread a needle between two important segments of the Democrat kook base that remain split over the pipeline. On one hand he has the labor unions that support the project for the jobs it would bring, and on the other hand he has environmentalist wackos who oppose it for the supposed "adverse" impacts that development of tar-sands oil could have on the environment. So once again instead of demonstrating any level of actual leadership, Barry once again does nothing more than to vote "present."
Barry’s decision should not have come as a big surprise to no one, and no one should have really been the least bit shocked by it. Knowing Barry as we all do, we should all be very aware of his desire to do everything in his power that make gasoline more and more expensive. White House spokesman Jay "Dim Bulb" Carney and other senior officials, like always, did their best to place the blame for Barry "decision" on the Republicans. Their rationale this time around was to claim that the Republicans’ 60-day deadline, which was included in the payroll-tax deal Barry signed into law last month, did not give the administration enough time to appropriately review the project plans. The State Department announced last fall that it would postpone a decision on the permit while an alternate route was developed that would avoid Nebraska's Ogallala Aquifer, which supplies water to millions of people. Just one lame excuse after another.
The timing of the announcement was said to be somewhat of a surprising. Especially since the administration actually had until February 21 to decide. But then again, the Wednesday announcement does make some political and economic sense. It allows Barry "Almighty" to go on the offense before Thursday’s debate between Republican presidential candidates in South Carolina and before his own State of the Union address next Tuesday. It also comes before public anger could grow if gasoline prices continue their upward climb in the weeks ahead. “This is the last day to own this issue on their terms,” said Kevin Book, managing director at ClearView Energy Partners, a Washington-based energy consulting firm. “The administration gets to explain their choice before it gets explained for them." Republicans, either in Congress or in the current batch of candidates, should work to keep the politics of this issue well out in the forefront.
Now the administration, as well as Barry’s reelection campaign, will seek to do damage control with Republican attacks. It must also submit within 15 days a report to Congress detailing why it rejected the permit. Which, if they're being honest can be summed up in just one word, POLITICS. But the issue will not be dropped by congressional Republicans. GOP leaders in both chambers are already mulling other legislation that could take the decision on the pipeline completely out of Barry’s hands. If that is in fact an option, then they should expedite the taking of any action that would make that a reality. They have also said any such maneuver could likely be included in the longer term payroll-tax deal Congress has indicated it will pass by the end of February. Now let's see if the GOP possesses the requisite backbone to make that happen. As we've seen before, GOP House members are very good at talking, but not very good at following through.
What Barry's essentially saying here, by the taking of this blatantly political action, is to Hell with the American people! The Hell with they're paying more and more for energy and the Hell with those looking for a job. He knows better, or so he would have us believe, but as they say, actions speak louder that words. Especially when one's actions are as transparent has his regarding the killing of this jobs creating project. It would appear that the only job in which Barry has any interest is his own. And he's only to happy to sacrifice anyone and everyone as he goes about the thwarting any attempt made to remedy the plight of this middle class. The very ones struggling to make ends meet as Barry goes off on any number of extravagant vacations or plays an endless number of rounds of golf. He claims that the GOP is out of touch with middle class America, but from where I'm sitting it's Barry whose really out of touch, with the entire country.
