I think it very safe to say that this political season has already deteriorated to the point where it will go down in the annals of political history as being one of the nastier ones right out of the gate. Now having said that, I'm sure we would all agree that we have now seen all manner of, shall we say, rather zany accusations made against Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney coming from his many conservative opponents, as well as numerous liberals and those in the state-controlled media, in regards to his record at Bain, record on abortion, his taxes and his record on Romneycare. But thus far in the campaign I really don't recall anyone having gone so far as to actually bring into question the immigration records of his ancestors. So I know you'll all be glad to hear, when I tell you that that very issue has now been brought out of the shadows and into the bright sunlight by none other than the network famous, or infamous, for its investigative style of journalism, MSNBC.
You see it was while on Chris "Got that Tingle goin up my leg" Matthew's show "High Ball" just this past Sunday, that that venerable political guru and star reporter, Andrea Mitchell decided to bring that all important topic to the very few viewers you were actually tuned in. Here's what this rocket scientist had to say: “And looking ahead to the next primary in Florida, 30 percent of the Hispanic community is Cuban-American. That’s a smaller proportion, and so the Hispanic community there is different. And they are less prone to be susceptible to Mitt Romney’s really hard line on immigration, more prone to the Newt Gingrich approach to immigration. The other interesting little fact is about the Mexican Romneys, those looking back at all of those records say that Mitt Romney should look back at the records because the Romneys that came back from Mexico to the United States, they crossed the border illegally.” Now be honest, have you ever heard anything more idiotic?
It was first speculated that Ms. Mitchell’s rather bizarre claim had as its source a Sunday NPR report on Romney’s Mexican relatives, however it was noted by those whose job it is to note such things that the story said nothing about any of his relatives coming to America illegally. NPR’s John Burnett told James Crugnale of Mediaite that he did not come across any documents indicating that the Gaskell Romney family came to the United States illegally, noting that they were part of an exodus of 1,200 Mormons from Mexico. Miles Park Romney was Mitt’s great grandfather, who fled the United States and crossed into Mexico in 1885 to escape religious persecution. There he helped build the Mormon enclave of Colonia Juarez in Chihuahua. Mitt’s father George was born in Mexico in 1907 to Gaskell and Anna Romney. NPR reports that George’s family left Mexico when he was five. George went on to be an auto executive, governor of Michigan, and a presidential candidate.
Now I feel fairly confident in saying that most us are of the opinion that had Barack Hussein Obama been made to endure the same level of intense scrutiny regarding his highly questionable "community agitator" background that it's fair to assume that he would never have been elected, let alone even be considered as being a viable candidate for the job. Call me silly, but had his background received even a cursory looking over, he would have been laughed out of the building for even suggesting his desire to run for president. Where Republican candidates are always examined under a magnifying glass, Democrats are always looked at with a blindfold on. But such is the way of our modern day state-controlled media complex. Those who are to be blessed with most favored status by the icons of today's primary media outlets, are to be provided a pass on any issue that, if brought to light, might in some way, become a hindrance to they're getting elected.
