CORY BOOKER, FROM RISING STAR TO BLACK HOLE...
Well it would seem that the political fortunes of one Cory Booker, Newark, N.J. Mayor, may have taken a sudden and very sharp turn southward. Booker provided what was probably one of the best examples yet of how careful one needs to be when discussing our rather thin-skinned 'Fearless Leader', Barry "Almighty." Because it would seem that poor Cory is now considered to be officially on the outs with Barry's White House after seeming to wander off the proverbial reservation in talking about the Barry campaign‘s attacks used on Mitt Romney’s private equity record. It seems that he was a tad bit too blunt in his remarks.
According to the New York Post, Booker’s one-time aspirations of landing a future Cabinet spot have now pretty much gone up in one rather substantial puff of smoke. “He’s dead to us,” one ranking administration official said of the prevailing feelings at the White House and Barry "Almighty's" headquarters in Chicago. Booker had been angling for the housing secretary gig in a second Barry term, according to sources in the administration and close to the mayor. The job was certainly a possibility, given Booker’s work in New Jersey’s biggest city, according to administration and Democratic Party sources.
Booker, whose national profile had been considered to be pretty much on the rise of late, made headlines last month when he said he found the Barry "Almighty" campaign‘s attacks on Romney’s time at Bain Capital to be “nauseating.” He hastily, but apparently not quite quickly enough for the White House, issued a video statement backtracking from the comments, which were almost immediately seized upon by Republicans. Now to be fair to Booker, he also made mention of likely attacks to be made regarding Barry's closeness to Rev. Jeremiah Wright. He lumped them altogether but that apparently made very little difference to 'Team Barry'.
The situation escalated the following night when Booker appeared on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” saying that he wanted to “clarify” his remarks. He pretty much only succeeded in throwing a little gas on the fire admitting that he had, in fact, been contacted by Barry campaign officials. “Cory and Barack Obama have never been besties, but that was the final nail. It’s like, ‘You’re dead and done.’ The firing squad is out,” said a Democratic source in contact with both sides. “It’s not just that he messed up, it was that he compounded it and didn’t have their back when they gave him a national stage to talk."
This un-named source went on to say, “What he did was undermine a leading argument for the campaign. It was a serious distraction. Not a minor screw-up; a major screw-up.” Despite the report, the Democratic National Committee insisted that Booker’s remarks are considered as being a thing of the past. “Mayor Booker’s comments are behind us and we are working together to re-elect the president in November,” DNC Executive Director Patrick Gaspard told the Post. Sure they are! As far as I'm concerned, I love it when these Democrats squabble. I just makes my day. And I really don't have any sympathy for Booker, he's just one more pathetic Democrat who put his political aspirations above the needs of the country.
