OBAMACARE…THE PLOT THICKENS…

It would seem that everyone is not happy there in the liberal paradise referred to as the Democrat Party with Barry now finding himself on the Christmas list of, fewer and fewer, congressional Democrats. It’s been said that Barry’s relationship with congressional Democrats has gotten a bit rocky, of late, and is now at an unprecedented low. And what’s worse, folks there in Congress are letting it be known that House and Senate Democrats are becoming increasingly frustrated, bitter and angry with the White House over Obamacare’s botched rollout, and that Barry’s mea culpa in a news conference last week did very little to soothe any ill will.

Sources who attended a little get together of House chiefs of staff on Monday say the room was, as they put it, seething with anger over the immense damage being done to the Democrat Party and talk was of scrapping rollout events for the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare. "Here we are, we’re supposed to be selling this to people, and it’s all screwed up," one chief of staff ranted. "This either gets fixed or this could be the demise of the Democrat Party. We should be so lucky! "It’s probably the worst I’ve ever seen it," the aide said of the recent mood on Capitol Hill. "It’s bad. It’s really bad." And such political drama could not happen to a better group.

Meanwhile, during a recent caucus meeting, a gathering during which I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall, between Senate Democrats and White House chief of staff Denis McDonough, one senator stood up and asked for a political point of contact at the White House. "There’s been an increase in frustration because people feel like they are continuing to be blindsided," said one Democrat who attended the caucus meeting, adding that there’s a "check-the-box" mentality at the White House in dealing with lawmakers. Ok, and these guys are just now figuring this out? It was all fine and dandy when things were going their way.

Democrats around Capitol Hill say there are lots of people to blame for the debacle that has engulfed them. But increasingly their anger is directed at one person and one person only: and that would be none other than Barry "Almighty". Now I’m about to do something here that I am totally unaccustomed to doing, and that would be to defend Barry. It was every single Democrat in Congress who voted for this thing. And not only that, it’s many of these very same Democrats who are now having a cow over this thing, who had a hand in writing the legislation that, according to Nancy, would have to be passed in order for us to then see what was in it.

In the news conference last week, Barry, rather uncharacteristically, accepted responsibility for the botched site and acknowledged that the failure of the rollout "has put a burden on Democrats, whether they’re running or not, because they stood up and supported this effort through thick and thin. "And I feel deeply responsible for making it harder for them rather than easier for them to continue to promote the core values that I think led them to support this thing in the first place, which is, in this country, as wealthy as we are, everybody should be able to have the security of affordable healthcare," Barry said. "And that’s why I feel so strongly about fixing it."

The White House hasn’t indicated just how much Barry will help campaign for those who are up for reelection next year. Barry, who has been attending a string of fundraisers in recent days, including a West Coast check-collecting trip this weekend, is expected to help lawmakers and both campaign committees throughout 2014. But as the healthcare problems continue to mount, lawmakers in swing districts aren’t sure that’s the best idea, especially because, according to one Democrat, "systemically you have what is a long-term problem." "It wouldn’t be helpful," the Senate aide said. "Maybe he can help raise some money for Democrats, but that’s the extent of it."

This whole Obamacare mess that the Democrats are now hip deep in, is one essentially of their own making. They wrote the bill, and they ‘passed’ the bill using just about every political trick available to them, and now they have the nerve to be whining about what it is that they themselves created. I suppose one could say that this is a perfect example of that old adage that says, "Be careful what you wish for." The Democrats have long wished to make socialized medicine a reality. And now that they have it, and it just may be what could lead to their downfall. What’s that they say about poetic justice? The Democrats made their bed, now they can lie in it.
