REP. ALLEN WEST…THE VOICE OF REASON...

During a recent interview with CNN‘s Soledad O’Brien, just this past Wednesday, my favorite Florida Congressman Allen West shared his skepticism about the payroll tax "compromise' recently agreed to in Congress and made it clear that, as it stands now, he wouldn’t be able to support the plan. Good for him! Naturally Ms. O’Brien, being the ever obedient Barry advocate, made note that Barry "Almighty" has been out promoting a “What Does $40 Mean To You?” angle to the payroll tax cut debate. In response, Rep. West stated, “We’re going to accumulate our own list of the top ten things that $40 does not get you. As a matter of fact, I can’t fill up a tank of gas in my vehicle back home with $40 of gas. Soledad, think about what we’re doing for our seniors. We’re pushing Social Security closer to the end of a cliff.” Rep. West is spot on! And yet I wonder if enough people are even the least bit concerned about just how close to that cliff Barry has managed to get us. Because we are now teetering on the very brink.

Earlier in the same segment, Rep. West affirmed that he would not support any "compromise" that would do so “on the backs of American homeowners.” “I won’t support that,” Rep. West said. Adding, “It’s about time that we get pretty genuine with the American people and not give them political gimmicks. Let’s start doing the things that look out for our future, not a short term economic band aid.” West later added that, “I think that I have to be responsible to the American people, I have to be accountable to them… It’s about time we get people who are serious and going to work for hard-working American taxpayers and not just tell them lies so we can get elected.” Well, we seem to have a considerable number of Americans who are perfectly content to be sopping up manner all of tripe routinely put out for their consumption by Barry "Almighty" and his fellow Democrats. Them seem to be quite willing, even eager, to believe whatever it is they are told by Barry, which may prove in the end, to be lethal to this country's ability to survive.

Rep. West went on to say,“ The actuaries and the trustees have already said we’re looking at ten years before we have bankruptcy with Medicare and following that, Social Security with probably 25 to 30% with degradation of benefits. These are the things we need to say to the American people not playing games with them based upon $40.” And he's right. But like I said earlier, are enough of the American people smart enough see that Barry is only using his stupid little games as a way to distract attention away from a much larger and much costlier problem now looming barely over the horizon. Or do they really even care? The storm clouds are definitely gathering, and Rep. West's voice is one of the few that we're hearing telling us we had best be willing to alter our course and change how we're doing business or we're very likely to come to a very untimely end in a very unpleasant place. Unfortunately, far too many of my fellow citizens seem to be cheerfully buying into the "don't worry, be happy" rhetoric of Barry "Almighty."

  1. I've got a Paulbot troll at my site right now who says "conservatives" only support West because of his skin color.
