Our old, old friend, Nancy "Botox Queen" Pelosi, is at it yet again. Providing us all with yet another example of how all things in her peculiar little universe center around politics, it was on Thursday old Nancy struck out and accused those despicable Republicans in Congress of doing nothing more than to try "to use the excuse of religious freedom" in order to take an action that will only result in harming women's health. She was speaking, of course, about rolling back the regulation that will compel all health-care plans to cover sterilizations and all FDA-approved contraceptives including those that cause abortion. The mandate, as part of the Democrat attempt at socialized medicine fondly referred to as Obamacare, was finalized on Jan. 20 and is set to take effect on Aug. 1. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), the Orthodox Christian bishops, leading Protestant pastors, and more than 158 members of Congress have denounced the regulation and several lawsuits have been filed challenging its constitutionality.
At a recent press conference on Capitol Hill, Nancy was asked, “Republicans have said they are going to introduce legislation to repeal the decision by HHS, in terms of religious institutions and contraceptives. Do you support the Administration on this decision and what is your response to Republicans saying the move is actually unconstitutional?” Pelosi responded, “I certainly do support the president’s decision. Just for a little history, as you may know and remember during the Affordable Care Act debate and the decisions that were made then, a waiver was given to Catholic churches not to have to include coverage for contraception for their employees directly, those working for Catholic churches. Now there’s a move to, for some, to expand that to universities and hospitals and, indeed, they have even said they want this to apply to all employers -- not just Catholic employers -- to all employers,” said Pelosi. “This is about women’s health,” she said. Actually it's not about "women's health," and Pelosi knows it.
Pelosi said, “There’s one thing, one of the things that is a priority for all, for the women in Congress, many of the Catholic women in Congress, is the health of American women. This is about the privacy and right of families to determine whether they want to use contraception to determine the size and the timing of their having children, the size and timing of their families. And so this is an issue, 98 percent of Catholics, they tell us, use contraception, overwhelming numbers of people in our country support the president’s decision, including, they tell us, at least you all tell us, a majority of Catholics,” said Pelosi. “So I support it. If it comes to the floor we’ll use this as a welcome debate to talk about the importance of women’s health. And it’s not just about the women,” Pelosi said. “It’s about their children and the health of their families as they make serious decisions and use contraception to determine, as I said, the size and timing of their families. That will be a debate that we welcome."
“Our founders believed so strongly that the government should neither establish a religion, nor prevent its free exercise that they listed it as the very first item in the Bill of Rights,” said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) in response to the Democrats’ actions. “And Republicans are trying today to reaffirm that basic right. But Democrats won’t allow it. They won’t allow those of us who were sworn to uphold the U.S. Constitution to even offer an amendment that says we believe in our First Amendment right to religious freedom. .... I’ve spent a lot of time in my life defending the First Amendment. But I never thought I’d see the day when the elected representatives of the people of this country would be blocked by a majority party in Congress to even express their support for it.” Last week, when asked about the new regulation, Rep. Pelosi said, “I am going to stick with my fellow Catholics in supporting the administration.” “I think it was a very courageous decision that they made, and I support it,” she added.
So I can only imagine the deep disappointment felt by old Nancy this afternoon, when Barry announced what was described as the “accommodation” that his administration plans to now offer church-affiliated groups. Speaking from the White House, he explained that, under the new plan, universities and institutions connected with faiths that oppose contraception and associated services will not have to directly offer them. That being said, there's still hope for Nancy, since insurers that these churches contract with will, indeed, be forced to cover contraceptives for those employees who wish to receive them. This latter rule will apply to all insurance companies serving religious-affiliated non-profits and institutions. Barry said that the new-and-improved birth control, sterilization and abortion-inducing drug policy will protect religious liberties, while assuring women’s access to contraception, or so reports the AP. Barry also urged politicians not to use the dilemma as a divisive political issue. “I understand some folks in Washington want to treat this as another political wedge issue."
I guess I still don't understand why there is this urgent need for readily accessible contraceptives and on demand abortion nor why it remains such a volatile issue. Is it because our society has now become so over-populated with horny sluts who have absolutely no self-control, nor self-respect for that matter, to the point that they must now be provided with a quick remedy for their pathetic behavior and poor judgment? Whatever happened to personal responsibility or for being accountable for ones actions? Ironically, all that these easily obtained contraceptives have ultimately resulted in is nothing more than an increase in all manner of promiscuous behavior, a skyrocketing number of sexually transmitted disease cases and over 40+ million murdered babies. Boy, now there's a ringing endorsement. And yet this remains the battle cry of those on the left. You always hear how it's all about a woman's right to choose, but if a woman "chooses" to have sex with someone and then gets pregnant why is that the only one who is made to suffer is the one who has no say in the matter, the baby that results from this little sexual liaison?
