That legendary moron, Tony Bennett, who, not all that long ago joined the ranks of the kook fringe when he, while discussing 9/11 on Howard Stern’s radio show, declared, “They flew the planes in, but we caused it, because we were bombing them and they told us to stop,” has now come up with yet another brilliant suggestion. One that, apparently, occurred to him shortly after the death of singer, Whitney Houston. And just what was this brilliant suggestion of old Tony’s? Well, apparently it's something that he seems to think is such a bang up idea that he has even called upon the U.S. government to take it for action. What he has suggested is for "drugs" to be legalized. He made this little plea during a tribute to Whitney Houston in the hours after her death.
“First it was Michael Jackson, then it was Amy Winehouse and now the magnificent Whitney Houston,” Bennett said. “I’d like to have every gentleman and lady in this room commit themselves to get our government to legalize drugs, so you can it from a doctor, not just some gangsters that just sell it under the table.” Bennett’s silly remarks took place at what had originally been planned as an annual pre-Grammy gala hosted by music producer and Houston mentor Clive Davis. “Let’s legalize drugs like they did in Amsterdam,” Bennett said, according to the Hollywood Reporter. “No one’s hiding or sneaking around corners to get it. They go to a doctor to get it.” Actually I'm not sure what drugs old Tony might be talking about. I've not heard it was any illegal substances were involved in Ms. Houston's death.
Anyway for this old fossil to even suggest such an idiotic idea goes beyond being ludicrous. But then it’s an issue that has become pretty commonplace for those considered to the entertainment elite in this country. But then what, the doctor comes to your home to administer your drug of choice? The person with a drug problem will then monitor and ration their use of said drugs at home? Does that make sense? Look, wouldn't you think that anybody with a brain would realize the dangers of doing drugs. And until people actually avoid doing these drugs this is going to be a sad story that we are going to see continue to play out. Simply legalizing drugs is not going prevent people who have problems with addiction from becoming addicts. That is a different issue entirely.
And I don’t think old Tony is placing the blame where it needs to be. Unlike old Tony, I simply have no sympathy for these celebrities who have been provided with such a gift from God and who then turn right around and use it for nothing more than a means to acquire the necessary resources that they can then spend on all manner of inappropriate behavior. And that behavior can pretty much run the gamut from taking drugs, booze, getting involved in kinky sex liaisons to God know what else. These people make a conscious decision to take these drugs or to surround themselves with any number of bona fide weirdoes. And then when something bad happens to them as a result then we're all supposed to feel sorry for them. Well, I'm here to tell you that I don't.
