Andrew Cuomo, he who former New York City Mayor Ed Koch, it was recently reported, referred to as being a "schmuck", back in 2010, today seems to be quite proud of himself for, "jumping out ahead of Washington," in enacting the nation’s toughest gun restrictions Tuesday. And he also takes great pride in being the first out of the gate since the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut. But as always, whenever dealing with corrupt, and rather slimy, politicians like 'The Schmuck" there are always ulterior motives involved and always numerous unintended consequences that the rest of are all made to deal with. What he’s actually done here is to create, here at home, a rat experiment of sorts. And thanks to him we will no longer need to look to Europe in order to find an example of how stricter gun laws not only do not work, they only serve to make matters worse. So, New Yorkers, I’m not yet sure how many of you will end up dying while your governor goes around slapping himself on the back, but things have been made more difficult for you to get a gun, while nothing has been done to prevent those you might wish to do you harm, from getting one.
And so it was that "The Schmuck", who I’m told sees himself as being a 2016 Democrat presidential hopeful, signed a measure into law less than an hour after it won final passage in the Legislature, with supporters hailing it as being a model for the nation and gun-rights activists condemning it as a knee-jerk piece of legislation that won’t make anyone safer and is too extreme to win support in the rest of the country. "Common sense can win," is what this moron, Cuomo, said. Commonsense? This 'Schmuck' went on to say, "You can overpower the extremists with intelligence and with reason and with common sense." I would argue that the only "extremist' here, is this crook Cuomo. Owners of an estimated 1 million previously legal semiautomatic rifles, such as the Bushmaster, will be allowed to keep their weapons but will have a year to register them with police. The sale of any more such weapons is now prohibited. "When there’s a pileup of events, when the federal government does not do it, the state of New York has to lead the way," said state Assemblyman Joseph Lentol, another scumbag Democrat as well as being a co-sponsor of the legislation.
In addition to outlawing a broader array of, generically described, military-style weapons, the measure also restricts ammunition magazines to seven rounds, down from the current 10, creates a more comprehensive database of people barred from owning guns, and makes New York the first state to require background checks to buy bullets. The system will also help flag customers who buy large amounts of ammo. In another provision, therapists, doctors and other mental health professionals will be required, yes I said required, to tell state authorities if a patient threatens to use a gun illegally. The patient’s weapon could then be taken away. Richard Aborn, president of some idiotic little group that calls itself the Citizens Crime Commission of New York City, said "The Schmuck" clearly understood gun violence is a complex issue requiring broader solutions than simply banning a particular weapon. Really? In a statement, the National Rifle Association said: "These gun control schemes have failed in the past and will have no impact on public safety and crime."
In response to this new law now being hailed as the toughest in the land, the NRA said, "While lawmakers could have taken a step toward strengthening mental health reporting and focusing on criminals, they opted for trampling the rights of law-abiding gun owners in New York, and they did it under a veil of secrecy in the dark of night." And their assessment if things is exactly right. But that's only because schmucks like Cuomo have so genuine interest in solving the problems that may exist, their only interest is to seize upon this 'crisis' and exploit it, to the best of their ability, in order to advance their own cockeyed political agenda. Ed Rendell made that quite clear when he said, " The good thing about Newtown, is that it was so horrific." Now I ask you, does this sound like a group of people who see the death of 20 children as being anything other than something to be exploited? And there in New York I suppose you could say the fault lies with both parties, as this new law passed the state Senate, which is run by a Republican-dominated coalition, 43-18. The Democrat-controlled Assembly approved it 104-43.
There were some Republicans who apparently complained the measure was rammed through the Legislature and infringes on the Second Amendment right to bear arms. "A lot of people say, `Why do you need these guns?’" said Assemblyman James Tedisco, a Schenectady Republican. "It’s part of the freedoms and liberties we have. … It’s for our public safety. It’s to protect us from our own government." He said the bill was dangerous because it would give people a "false sense of well-being." He went on to say, "You are using innocent children killed by a madman for your own political agenda." Adding, "You are actually making people less safe." And he's exactly right. Because all that's really been accomplished here, and by specific design I might add, is to make it more difficult for law abiding citizen to own a gun for no other reason than for protection. Tom King, president of the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, questioned whether other states or the federal government would follow New York’s lead and said he expects the law to be challenged in court.
Previously, New York state law on assault weapons banned semiautomatics that have detachable magazines and at least two military-type features, such as a pistol grip, folding stock, muzzle flash suppressor or bayonet mount. The new law outlaws weapons with just one of those features. It also requires background checks for even private gun sales, except those among immediate family. In addition, it says handgun owners must renew their licenses every five years, and it increases prison sentences for using guns in various crimes or taking them onto school grounds. "By making this a priority, the governor has not only saved lives but will hopefully inspire leaders in Washington also to take swift action," said Dan Gross, president of the national Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. Mr. Gross, here, is doing nothing more than to blow smoke, because I'm quite sure he can't be stupid enough to actually believe what he's saying. Because nothing in what "The Schmuck" has done will result in the saving of any lives. What it will accomplish is the putting of many more lives at risk.
In what was described as being a concession to those on the pro-gun side, local authorities will be allowed to withhold the identities of registered gun owners – an issue that erupted recently when a suburban New York City newspaper published the names and addresses of gun owners in its readership area. The New York legislation sparked spirited discussion among customers at the Buffalo Gun Center in the suburb of Cheektowaga, not that far from my home town, where business was so brisk that people had to wait in line in freezing temperatures just to get in the door. "It’s ridiculous. It’s absolutely – how to put it nicely – it’s Prince Andrew Cuomo’s bid for the White House," said Jim Hanley, who was waiting to buy another handgun. "I want to do it before the right is taken away. Andrew Cuomo and Barack Hussein Obama are two best gun salesmen in the history of the world." Can't argue with that! It's just one more reason, besides the crazy taxes, that I don't live there anymore. And it's kinda sad really, but loons like "The Schmuck" have now been in charge up there for so long now, they've destroyed the place.
Look, it has been proven to the point of ad nauseam that these types of laws accomplish absolutely nothing of what we are told that they are designed to accomplish. That's only because what's truly behind the creation of these new 'stricter' gun laws is, ultimately, the complete removal of guns from our society. And I hope those now living in New York realize this and they have now, essentially, become the equivalent of nothing more than lab rats. Look, what seems to be missing from the entire gun control debate is the fact that enforcement of current gun laws is down more than 40 percent over the course of Barry's first term. Which begs the question, if we're choosing not to enforce existing laws, what purpose is there to come up with new ones. Unless, of course, and you can call me a conspiracy nut if you wish, existing laws have not been enforced in the hopes that that would actually encourage or, at least, dramatically increase the odds, of something the Newtown occurring, thus providing to those now choosing not to enforce present laws, the opportunity to profess the need for stricter laws.
