STRICTER GUN LAWS ‘DECREASE’ PUBLIC SAFETY...
The guy who is Chicago's top cop, says he's "disappointed" with the long, violent stretch of days surrounding the July 4th holiday, but said Mayor Rahm Emanuel still has his back. Now other than the fact that these slimy liberals always stick together, I can't for the life of me understand why this guy still has a job. "I'm absolutely positive that I enjoy the mayor's confidence," Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy told reporters Monday morning. "This past week we've been disappointed."
Since Wednesday afternoon, or in the span of a mere 4 1/2 days, 11 people were killed and at least another 61 were wounded in violence around the city of Chicago. But Rahm's boy, McCarthy, noted this year's homicide total is down by 76 victims compared to this time last year. And there have been 350 fewer shootings than last year, when surging gun violence grabbed international headlines. Well, I suppose you gotta look for that silver lining wherever you can find it. But that's a stretch.
McCarthy, speaking at a press conference in Englewood, sought to bring year-to-year context to last week's violence. There were 65 shootings last week. The same week last year saw 76, he said. The violence continued well after July 4th, including five people getting shot during an apparent landlord-tenant dispute on Sunday night. According to preliminary police information, a landlord opened fire about 8:10 p.m. in the 11300 block of South Forest Avenue, said a Police Department spokesman.
Five people were shot and taken to area hospitals. Among those wounded were a 16-year-old boy who was grazed on his leg; a 17-year-old boy shot in his shoulder; a male struck in his shoulder; a female shot in her neck; and a male who was struck multiple times and is listed in "critical condition." But I guess, at least according to the esteemed Mr. McCarthy, here, things could be a whole worse. Maybe that's how he justifies what I'm sure is his exorbitant salary.
In other incidents since last Wednesday in the 'Windy City':
1) On Sunday afternoon, two men were shot, one fatally, while earlier that same day, four were wounded across the cities South and West sides.
2) In the single bloodiest incident, one person was killed and seven wounded in an East Garfield Park shooting Saturday evening.
3) And on Friday night and early Saturday morning, twelve more people were shot, including one man who was killed.
4) Among the two people killed and 17 wounded Thursday night and early Friday were 5-year-old and 7-year-old boys shot in South Side parks. Both boys were recovering from their wounds.
5) Earlier Thursday, three people were killed, and four were wounded in shootings citywide.
6) Three more people were killed, and 13 were wounded Wednesday as the long holiday weekend started.
And how is all of this murder and mayhem able to occur in a city that has some of the strictest, if not 'the' strictest gun laws in the entire country? And wouldn't you think that Chicago could be considered as being the nearly perfect example of how stricter gun laws always accomplish nothing but the exact opposite of what their supporters repeatedly claim? I mean there is zero proof that stricter gun laws also increase public safety. In fact, the evidence shows just the opposite.
A desire to reduce gun violence as a way to increase public safety is not what motivates Democrats, and even some Republicans, in their continuing quest to prevent Americans from acting on what is their fundamental Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. What's really behind these cries for stricter gun laws is nothing more than a very sinister attempt to disarm the American public to the greatest extent possible, thus putting the government in a much stronger position of being able to control that same American public.
