IS BALTIMORE, ANOTHER CHICAGO?

Well it would seems that Chicago is not alone in its being a liberal cesspool, disguised as a city, that is now suffering from a growing level of gun violence. Apparently that once great city of Baltimore, which we all know is located in the People's Republic of Maryland, is now experiencing a growing rash of gun violence. So we have yet another city, quite proudly headed up by yet another liberal Democrat mayor, in this case it's Stephanie C. Rawlings-Blake, suffering through something of its own making.

As previously mentioned, Baltimore lies within the confines of Maryland, the state Constitution of which contains absolutely no provision protecting the right to keep and bear arms. No big surprise there, right? As well, he State preempts some local firearm regulations, though local governments may regulate firearms with respect to minors and areas of public assembly. Gun laws in Maryland are some of the strictest gun laws in the country, as they regulate the sale, possession, and use of firearms and ammunition in that state.

I provide the above information for background purposes only to point out that, once again, we have a locale with strict gun laws that are proving to have absolutely no effect on public safety, and actually making matters worse. The surge in violence continues in Baltimore as the police report more shootings, the last of which happened late Saturday in Northeast Baltimore. At least 40 shootings have happened in the last 10 days with 16 of them proving fatal, two people were shot on Saturday, neither shooting was fatal.

Police have stepped up their presence on the streets in response to what city officials have described as being 'surge' in violence that has included 11 fatal shootings in the span of a single week. Police Commissioner Anthony Batts has said that nearly three times the usual number of officers would be on the streets this Fourth of July Weekend. City clergy have also gotten into the act and are now asking residents to step up and end this violent trend. Clergy and members of 120 churches are rallying and praying this weekend for peace.

"If you put a police officer in every block, you still could not solve the program when the problem is inside of the individual, " said Bishop Angel L. Nunez of Bilingual Christian Church. Well the Bishop is right, guns don't kill people, people kill people. This recent 'surge' in shootings highlights the city’s problem with gun violence and homicide rate. So far this year, there have already been roughly 117 homicides which is the highest in six years. With the violence spotlighting Baltimore, the mayor said the solution starts with us.

Ya know, I'm always pretty confused when it comes to these locales with strict gun laws who simply cannot bring themselves to deal with the issue in the only way that truly makes any sense. Therefore, one could safely argue that the level of gun violence which they are made to experience that is essentially brought on by their own actions. The insist on disarming the public, leaving their citizens defenseless and as nothing more than sitting ducks, and yet seem surprised when they go through something like what they're calling in Baltimore, a surge.

And no matter how many 'surges' these liberal enclaves may be made to go through, the little light bulb just never goes off. That light bulb that should be telling them to allow their law-abiding citizens to own a gun so they can protect themselves. I can only guess that the leaders in these cities would rather have an unarmed population rather than a safe population. All the better for the government to be able to control the citizenry should just such an occasion ever arise. Isn't that what's of the utmost importance to most Democrats?
