Mitt Romney, the loser we put up against Barry in
2012 only to have him wilt under the pressure, is not exactly ruling out the
possibility of him being willing to offer himself up as an alternative to
Donald Trump later this year should we encounter a brokered convention. It was during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet
the Press” that the Mitt-ster said, “I don’t think anyone in our party should
say, ‘Oh no, even if the people of the party wanted me to be president, I would
say no to it.’ No one is going to say that.”
However, there has been much speculation, of late,
that Mr. Romney might be trying to set himself up for a surprise nomination
ever since last week when he unleashed what was a rather brutal denouncement of
front-runner Donald Trump, going so far as to urge voters to support anyone but
the billionaire real estate mogul in upcoming primaries all in an effort to
force a contested convention this summer in Cleveland, Ohio. But might Romney be doing little more than to
try to grease the skids for another run of his own?
And for those of you who might have missed it,
Romney lambasted Mr. Trump as “a fraud, a phony” in a speech last
Thursday. And then on the Sunday talk
show, Mr. Romney said he isn’t running and plans to endorse one of Mr. Trump’s
three rivals — either Ted Cruz, John Kasich or Marco Rubio. Romney went on to say, also on ‘Meet the
Press’, that he believes his Thursday speech against Donald Trump hurt the 2016
front-runner after he split Saturday's contests with Ted Cruz. However, I think that’s pure speculation.
And Romney was pretty quick to take credit regarding
the fact that Trump was only able to pick up two of the four state contests
that were held this past weekend. And it
was again on “Meet the Press” that he said, "I think I had a big
impact." And he went on to say,
"I think a lot of people were surprised by how well Ted Cruz did. He got
more delegates than Donald Trump last night. He was ebullient and enthusiastic,
and Donald Trump was uncharacteristically low-energy last night. I think he was
really surprised." Well, we see
things as we choose to, I guess.
Trump won Kentucky and Louisiana, but came in second
to Cruz in Kansas and Maine. Trump had
been endorsed by Maine’s governor and had been expected to win that state. Cruz appears to be "emerging right
now," Romney said, but added he wouldn't write off Rubio or Kasich just
yet. He said, "Marco Rubio is very
strong in Florida. More recent polls have him within a few points of Donald
Trump." And added, "And John
Kasich [is] leading in Ohio. So they may be favorite-son candidates or they may
emerge down the road being a very strong candidate on their own."
Romney indicated he might endorse someone after the
March 15 primaries, but said he would be satisfied with anyone in the field
other than Trump, who he says is "not at all the real deal" when it
comes to conservatism. So I can only
guess that Romney considered himself, when do many others didn’t, as being “the
real deal” back on 2012? The fact is
that many of us who voted ‘FOR’ Romney were doing little more than to vote
“AGAINST” Barry. So for Romney to make
such an idiotic accusation is nothing short of ludicrous.
“I can tell you this: I’m not a candidate. I’m not
going to be a candidate. I am going to be endorsing one of the people who is
running for president,” he said. “One of the four is going to be the Republican
Party nominee. Three of the four are people I would endorse. But I’m not
running and I’m not going to be running.”
Now if that’s true, then what’s the point of any of this? And then he said that If Trump is the
nominee, he will probably write in the name of a conservative on the November
general election ballot. Old Mitt, a
real team player.
And in another interview that also aired this past
Sunday, on CNN's "State of the Union," Romney said he would have
spoken out sooner but didn’t expect Trump to do so well. He said, "But he has tapped into an
anger which is very much understood."
Romney went on to say, "What he's done with that anger, however, is
not to build it and to resolve and high purpose, but instead to take it down a
very dark alley." What’s really
pissing me off here is that Romney has to know that he’s playing right into the
hands of our leftist state-controlled media.
So what’s Mitt really up to here? Is he simply trying to sabotage Trump, and if
so what’s the real reason for it? Is it
so he can somehow be seen as some kind of knight riding in on a white horse in
an effort to save us all from ourselves?
If so, I thought Barry had a big ego!
And that old Mitt actually thinks he would have a snowballs chance in
Hell that we would ever pick as our nominee is completely insane. Personally,
I’m thinking that Romney is simply jealous when it comes to the level of
success that Trump continues to have.
