FEW SAY THEY TRUST THE GOVERNMENT…
After five years of watching this guy, Barry "Almighty", in action as well as having kept a watchful eye on the unethical behavior of his Democrat allies in Congress as they continually block each and every piece of legislation they may disagree with, is it really any wonder the public's faith that the government can now be trusted to do what's ‘right’ has hit yet another all-time low? In fact, the level of trust the public now has in their government has now dipped below levels seen even at the height of the Watergate scandal when ‘Tricky Dick’ Nixon was on the verge of being impeached.
According to a CNN poll, a rather questionable source at best, which was conducted July 18-20 of 1,012 adults, just 13 percent of respondents said that they believe the government can be trusted to do what is ‘right’ always or most of the time, while over three-quarters of Americans said it can only be trusted some of the time. Also according to the poll, it was 10 percent who said they never trust the government. Now I must admit, as a tax paying white guy, my reasons for distrusting the government are most likely not the same as those that someone else may possess for distrusting those in government.
But I do think that a contributing factor to why it is that a great many people have now come to say they distrust the government is because very few people, these days, actually possess any real understanding of how it is that our government was designed to work. Many people were never taught about our system of government, or are able to understand, in the first place, the wisdom of having our three supposedly equal branches. Add to that the fact that our system has become so bastardized over the years, especially in this era Barry "Almighty", and it’s no wonder trust in government is at an all-time low.
The release of the poll comes on the eve of the 40th anniversary of Richard Nixon's resignation. At that time, the public's trust in government was much higher than today's, though the scandal, which broke out in 1972, significantly damaged faith in the government. Specifically, in 1972, 53 percent said they trusted the government always or most of the time. By 1974, trust in the government had dropped to 36 percent. Since then, public faith in the government has consistently remained under 50 percent except for a brief period immediately following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Now there is one thing I would call into question about how this poll was conducted. And that is the fact that what one person might perceive as being the ‘right’ thing for the government to do, someone else might see as being the ‘wrong’ thing. For instance, I think that every single American citizen should be made to pay some amount of income tax. I view that as being the ‘right’ thing do. I think it is ‘wrong’ that half of our population is able to completely escape the tax man yet is still able to receive a rather sizeable tax ‘return’ each and every year. And yet I’m quite sure that there are many people view things very differently.
