OOPS, THE NRA CHOOSES TO MESS WITH TEXAS…
Ya know, there’s an old saying, and I mean really old in that it dates back to, most likely, before Texas was even a state, that says that you just don’t mess with Texas. But apparently at least some of those over at the NRA have either never heard of it or, for whatever reason, simply chose to ignore it. Because the National Rifle Association recently decided to release a statement saying that open carriers of firearms should practice more discretion and even went so far as to call the behavior of some as being "downright weird." And now the group labelled as being ‘weird’, Open Carry Texas (OCT), is fighting back.
According to one source, the group said that the NRA's statements were both "ignorant" and "unnecessary." In taking to it’s page on Facebook, OCT wrote, "The NRA has refused to learn for themselves how Open Carry Texas (OCT) conducts itself other than what the liberal media and Bloomberg-funded gun-control extremists have falsely portrayed." It went on to say, "The real ignorance in their statement is that it was completely unnecessary. OCT – along with Come And Take It Texas, Texas Carry and Gun Rights Across America – has already changed its methods and the whole world is aware of that."
The group is reported to have said, "The more the NRA continues to divide its members by attacking some aspects of gun rights instead of supporting all gun rights, the more support it will lose." Adding, "Already, OCT members are posting pictures of themselves cutting up their life membership cards. If they do not retract their disgusting and disrespectful comments, OCT will have no choice but to withdraw its full support of the NRA and establish relationships with other gun rights organizations that fight for ALL gun rights, instead of just paying them lip service the way the NRA appears to be doing."
According to an earlier reports, the NRA felt compelled to make the unusual statements after multiple chain restaurants started refusing customers entry if they were openly carrying arms. One columnist associated with Mediate, Evan McMurry, wrote that the NRA wants gun owners to be more discreet, "lest the sight of heavily armed groups descending upon public spaces backfire ... and produce more stringent gun restrictions." The NRA's legislative arm wrote: "Here at NRA, we are big fans of responsible behavior … legal mandates, not so much," according to a Mediaite report.
But apparently someone at the NRA came to their senses. Because after realizing that they may have taken things a bit too far, the NRA has now apologized to OCT for calling it "downright weird." Chris Cox, the executive director of the NRA’s policy wing, said that the organization was wrong to condemn OCT supporters for showing up with large rifles at stores and restaurants as part of their open carry protests. Their actions have led to a public outcry over the "scary" guns with some chains, including Starbucks and Chipotle, now urging their customers not to bring weapons into their stores.
And it was Mr. Cox who said on the NRA’s Internet channel, "The truth is an alert went out that referred to this type of behavior as weird or somehow not normal, and that was a mistake." He went on to say, "It shouldn’t have happened and I’ve had a discussion with the staffer who wrote that piece and expressed his personal opinion. And our job isn’t to criticize the lawful behavior of fellow gun owners. So this is a distraction and certainly the media has had a field day with it." One would think that with a state-controlled media that’s so rabidly anti-gun, someone should have known what would happen.

NRA, FLIPPIN OBAMA THE BIRD...
Well folks, today is the day that the board of the National Rifle Association will elect its new president, and in this case it'll be a hard-line culture warrior who has worked for decades to make the NRA a more aggressive political force. The election of Mr. James Porter, essentially ensured after the endorsement of outgoing President David Keene last week, is one of many defiant signals to come out of the NRA's annual meeting in Houston this past weekend. The organization vowed to continue to fight against any compromise on gun-control legislation in Congress.
Amid news that the NRA's membership had grown to a record 5 million strong, Mr. Porter hit the nail on the head when he told the group's meeting, on Saturday, that, "Revenge is what's motivating the president's unrelenting attacks on gun owners today." He went on to say, "Millions of Americans are becoming first-time gun owners." He added, "The media calls it fear. That's not it. It's a sense of natural outrage that's been building for quite some time." Speaking as one of those first-time gun owners, I couldn't agree with him more.
Mr. Porter is 64 and a lawyer from Birmingham, Ala. who purpose in life has, up to this point, been defending gun manufacturers, and he has been building that outrage his whole life. His father, Irvine C. Porter, was president of the NRA back in 1959, or back when the son says the NRA was "a glorified shooting society." At a breakfast Friday, Porter told grass-roots organizers that they are on the frontline of a "culture war." In describing Mr. Porter, Josh Horwitz of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence said, "He seems to come out of a mold that's much closer to the base than David Keene."
The weekend's event also featured speeches from politicians such as Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas — who challenged Vice President Biden to a debate on gun violence — and the NRA's crowd-pleasing executive vice president, Wayne LaPierre. "We will never surrender our guns. Never," LaPierre said. "The media and the political elites can lie about us and demonize us all they want, but that won't stop us." Observers said the tone of the convention wasn't surprising, given the debate over universal background checks in Congress, which the NRA has stood firmly against!.
So as more than 70,000 people visited the weekend event, primarily for the gun trade exhibits on the floor of the Houston convention center, at the same time roughly 70 protesters held a vigil across the street, reading the names of 3,863 victims of gun violence since the shooting in Newtown, Conn., on Dec. 14. Too bad no one saw fit to read a list of names of those whose lives have been saved either because they had a gun, or someone close by had one. Despite the drivel we constantly hear from Democrats, Barry included, far more lives are saved every year because of guns, than are lost.

MOST, TODAY, HAVE A FAVORABLE VIEW OF NRA...
Other interesting poll findings:
-- 21% of Americans have a very favorable opinion of the NRA, and 18% have a very unfavorable opinion.
-- 83% of Republicans have a favorable opinion of the NRA, compared with only 36% of Democrats. Among Independents, favorability was 54%.
-- 71% of Americans with a gun in the household hold a favorable opinion of the NRA, while 40% of non-gun-owning households also have a favorable opinion of the NRA.
So apparently all of the effort expended by the Democrats, and with their many minions in the state-controlled media acting in concert with them, has all been for naught. If you've been watching any of the news of late, you've been able to witness first hand how the accusations being made have pretty run the gamut, with it being painfully obvious that none have had any basis in any actual fact. In fact, they have been so far removed from being anywhere near reality as to make them absolutely laughable and earning nothing but ridicule for the imbeciles making the ludicrous charges. But has I have mentioned here before, Democrats, as well as those in state-controlled media, have never allowed the facts to stand in their way of capitalizing on what is seen as a political opportunity or to get in the way of a 'good' story. Neither has anything ever convinced them to pass on making one attempt after another to rewrite our Constitution.
