Apparently, Rep. Donna Edwards, much like her
Democrat comrade from there in the People’s Republic of Maryland, seems to be
of the opinion that Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake "recognized
there were some issues" with the Baltimore Police Department "long
before" Freddie Gray died of injuries he is alleged to have suffered while
in police custody. The mayor has now asked the Justice Department to examine
policing practices in Baltimore, but Edwards indicated that she already
understands the problem. It was during an appearance on ‘Fox News Sunday’ that
Edwards said, "I would say there's an over-policing going on."
Host Chris Wallace, who I am personally not a big
fan of, noted that Baltimore has not had a Republican administration in 50
years. He asked the esteemed Ms.
Edwards, "Is it unfair to say that liberal policies have failed the city of
Baltimore?" To which Edwards
replied, "Well, what it means is that, you know, if you have communities
where the only face of government that they see is law enforcement, it's not
investment in their schools, it's not investment in their communities and
economic development. It's law enforcement. That's not the fault of police.
That's the fault of policymakers who are making decisions about where our
priorities (are)."
And it was in a more direct response to Wallace’s
question, Edwards said, "No. I mean, I would say, for example, with our
schools, just prior to the Freddie Gray incident, Mayor Stephanie
Rawlings-Blake was actually prevailing upon our Republican governor to release
money for school funding." So once
again it would seem that everything that is wrong with another horrifically
mismanaged, Democrat controlled, city is nothing that can’t be fixed with a
just a bit more money being spent. Hence
we have the Democrat solution to everything.
I seems to matter very little to this moron that our country is already
drowning in $18 Trillion worth of debt.
Larry Hogen, who is a Republican, has been governor
in heavily Democrat Maryland for just a little over three months. His Democrat predecessor, Martin O'Malley, the
same man you created something referred to as the “rain tax”, held the office
for eight years and with a Democrat-majority legislature for his entire tenure.
But Marty, who is now considering a run
for president, oddly enough didn’t seem to see it as being all that necessary
to spend more money on schools. Which
makes me assume that if a flaming socialist like Marty never saw a necessity to
increase school funding, then the schools there in Maryland are already pretty
much over-funded.
This buffoon, Edwards, then on to say, "When
you have schools that are operating in the 20th century, and we're trying to
prepare our children for the 21st century, even those children know they are
not educated in the right way." She
added, "I think that that is a baseline for how we can revitalize
communities so that it's not -- we're not investing in economic development
only in the areas where we get tax abatements, but we're investing in other
areas in the community, our small businesses and our education system and job
retraining." Wallace noted that the
City of Baltimore "was already spending plenty on public schools, and the
schools were still lousy."
Edwards responded, "Well, I mean, there's
uneven spending in the public schools." And then added, "And I would
say to you -- I mean, even the school that let out where the riots first began,
there was a student who was interviewed who said, 'I'm looking at a book that's
20 years old.' How does that prepare her for the 21st century? She went on to say, "So, I think we have
a lot of questions to ask. They're not just -- they're not questions that are
only for Republicans. They're questions for Democrats and Republicans about
where we're going to make investments in our communities so the only investment
we make isn't on the back end on law enforcement."
And in a pre-taped interview on NBC's "Meet the
Press," House Speaker John Boehner, someone else I am certainly no fan of
and who is someone I rarely agree with, blamed "50 years of liberal
policies that have not worked" for the problems facing poor people. He said, "It's time to look at all these
programs and determine what's working and what isn't, because until we start to
find programs that actually work and we provide opportunities, more
opportunities and a better education, we are going to have more of the
same. He added: "If money was going
to solve the education problem, we would have solved it decades ago." And I agree!
So guess we’re all supposed to believe that it’s
over-policing, and apparently, under-funding of city schools as well, that’s really
to be blame here. But if it’s really all
about over-policing then how about we maybe start doing some
under-policing. Maybe the police
departments in some of these Democrat controlled cesspools referred to as being
the nation’s cities, should simply close up shop. And let’s see what would happen. If I was a cop in a city like Baltimore I’d
be telling my family that my work environment has become far too hazardous to
my health and the time has come to relocate to somewhere where the population maybe
isn’t so dark.
Those who defend the streets of our cities deserve,
just as much as everyone, to make it home safely to their families at the end
of each day. And when the politicians
decide to side with the thugs, and for purely political reasons, then the odds
of that taking place become significantly reduced. The vast majority of those who become
policeman, much like those who chose to join the military, do so out of a need
to help and to protect others. And it’s
quite sad really, that it’s those very folks who receive the least appreciation
and often some of the harshest condemnation. And that things have deteriorated
to such a degree under a black president says a lot.
